Post Excellent Golf Course in Winnipeg/Manitoba ... anyone?
I'm lookin' for a nice golf course to treat my dad to for his birthday.
in toronto ... there are a few options for 'treats'
copper creek, angus glen, eagle's nest, ... maybe wooden sticks ...
then there are ones an hour or two drive away in muskoka,
lake joseph, taboo resort, grandview (o'meara course), deerhurst highlands,
muskoka bay, the rock (faldo design), bigwin island, the ridge at manitou ...

these 'treats' would be around $200 and up PER person for green fees incl. powercart.

can anyone suggest a similarly nice course in winnipeg/manitoba to treat my dad to?
doesn't HAVE to be $200/person but that's the price range i'd have no problem spendin.

thanks for the help!

Maybe you'd like to take a trip out to the Hecla Oasis Resort. That would be a special golfing "Treat" for someone's birthday. They have a new spa resort to go along with the golf. It's a couple hours north of Winnipeg.

Here's the link to the Hecla website for your perusal if you're interested.

Hecla Oasis Resort would be a great place to take someone for their birthday or any other occasion. They have done a wonderful job with the renovation of Gull Harbour to a 5 star calibre resort including the addition of a family water park, full service day spa with mineral pool, as well a health and wellness center.

And of course they have an 18-hole championship golf course.
-ranked 1st in Manitoba *
-ranked 26th in Canada *

* according to Globe & Mail Golf 100

I have been told the renovations are not quite complete at the Hecla Oasis resort but the golf course is open to the public. The Pro Shop Ph# is 204-279-2072.

I'm not sure if you still want to go to Hecla or not but there are some other courses you might want to look at:

The Links at Quarry Oaks is one we like to play. http://www.quarryoaks.ca/

Granite Hills Golf Course is a brand new golf course just opened this month. I haven't played yet but it looks really nice. http://www.granitehills.ca/

Other courses closer to Winnipeg or in Winnipeg you might like:

I just saw that you previously posted you liked Bridges at Starbucks in the favorite Manitoba golf course topic. Have you played there before? Are you from Manitoba or just travel here on occasion?

I hope you enjoy your trip this week and get in some good golf. Have you decided where you're going to take your dad for his birthday?

enjoyin' it immensely. took dad up to Clear Lake GC up in Riding Mtn National Park.
Nice course. so many holes remind me of golfing in the Alberta Rockies.
A good time was had by all ... but holy blind shots galore ... ringing of the cowbell/triangle/gong on three holes and blind approach and tee shots sprinkled in for fun .. and who can forget #17... that crazy par-3 ... i could reach the green hitting my putter!
this week'll be trying out Southwood ... I heard they're moving soon to St.Nob.

Glad to hear you enjoyed the trip. I assume your dad enjoyed it as well. I haven't been to Clear Lake but it sounds like a fun golf course. I'll have to convince the guys to drive out there to give it a try. Summer has gone by quick and only a little time left for golf....in Manitoba.

yes. dad really enjoyed it.
one of his greatest thrills is that i got 'into' golf in a big way like he has.
something i never did when i was a kid growin' up in 'peg.
i'll be back soon.
was tryin' to be back for UofM Homecoming but business travels will be takin' me elsewhere.

It's nice to hear you had a great time with your Dad. It's also great that you're coming back to the 'Peg when you get a chance. It seems many have left for work or business but all try to make it back when they can. It's good to have you returning to Manitoba...and to our forum.
