Gary Player made the correct choice for Mike to be on the Presidents Cup Team even though Mike probably did not deserve to be on the team based on performance .

It was a given that they had to have a Canadian on the squad. Mike Weir deserves the spot but he knows he's on the team based on it being in Canada. Stephen Ames kind of let it slip away with his 76 on Sunday in the PGA Championship, although with it being in Canada I think he should have been picked anyways. Two Canadians would have been good for the crowd at The Royal Montreal Golf Club.

Stephen Ames would be in Weir's spot if he had a better finish. I believe I read that Gary Player had planned to choose Ames if he placed in the top 6 in the PGA Championship. He believes Gary made the right choice though.

Mike Weir had a great start in the Deutsche Bank Championship's opening two rounds but couldn't continue that great golf over the final two rounds.

He finished at 4-under par with scores of 65 68 74 73 280

Maybe this is a sign he's getting back on track.

Mike Weir played great in the Presidents Cup to beat Tiger Woods on the final day match-up.

Then he continued his great play and won the Fry's Electronics Open this past weekend.

He's back on his game!

Mike Weir is currently tied for 3rd after the second round in the UBS Hong Kong Open (PGA European Tour) with the the third round under way as I type this. He's 5 back of the lead.
